Tribu Bagobo Woodlands: Hidden Resort in Binaton, Digos City

Ang Tribu Bagobo Woodlands is a resort hidden in the mountains of Baranggay Binaton, Digos City. The resort is one of the famous tourist spots in the city.

Baranggay Binaton is not really noted in the city but since 2012 when Tribu Bagobo Woodlands opened, it invites more people and made the barangay known.

The resort is owned by Miss Nene Abajero. She also revealed that some of the materials used in building the resort are shipped from Australia. There are 2 swilling pools, close cottages, tents, billiard hall and videoke area.

How to get to Tribu Bagobo Woodlands:

Tribu Bagobo Woodlands in Binaton can be reached by land transportation via van, “habal-habal” motorcycle, or your personal vehicle. Trust me with these guides because I have been there and I live here in Barangay Binaton, Digos City.

Via Van:

There is a terminal in Digos City Old Public Market where you can ride a van. The public vans will usually take you to Kapatagan, but since Barangay Binaton is in the same route going to Kapatagan, you can ride a van to Kapatagan and tell the driver that you will stop to Tribu Bagobo Woodlands in Barangay Binaton.

The fare going to Kapatagan is Php 100.oo but the fare stopping at Binaton is the same as stopping in Kapatagan. That is if you are not wise, if you are wise enough you can negotiate the driver and get discount to cut it around Php 50.oo – Php 70.oo. If you are travelling with a group it is cheaper to rent a van to take you all to Tribu Bagobo Woodlands.

Via Motorcycle:

There is a “habal- habal” motorcycle that can take you to Barangay Binaton. One motorcycle can handle 5 persons. The fare is Php 45.oo only. This is the ride most of the travelers take whether solo traveler or group since it’s cheaper. The motorcycle terminal can be found on the Old Llanos Clinic. There is an old huge mango tree and only a few steps away from Dep-Ed Department.

If you can afford a van, take the van, it’s much safer. But I have never ride a van to Barangay Binaton even though I live there for years. How ironic but it’s true. Since I was a kid, we always took the “habal- habal” motorcycle ride aside from its exciting, the air is just refreshing that’s what I love the most.

Via Personal Vehicle:

Make sure you got enough gas and the vehicle is in condition. The road is not that rough now since the road was already well developed but the rides are going uphill and down. There are 2 major uphill roads along the way so make sure the vehicle is in good condition or else you’ll stop at that middle of the hill.

The ride will take you about 30 minutes. If you are riding a public motorcycle or van, the drivers already know where to stop. If you are riding a vehicle, the resort is a few kilometers away from the barangay hall. You will have to ride along road surrounded by trees.

There on the left side, there is a banner saying “Welcome to Tribu Bagobo Woodlands” that’s your sign to stop. You cannot take your vehicle inside since there is no enough road going to the resort so leave your vehicle beside the road. There is a parking lot there.

Since I already guide you to get here, now is the time to tell my story. Just put yourself under my shoe.

It was during this year 2014 where we last visited here. I was with my college classmates. We planned our outing here since we are all going to leave college and start the life we chose to live.

Awesome Entrance:

Upon entering the resort, I was amazed with the place. I, with my classmates, walked in a very tight cement road. There are trees and flowers along the way. I was carrying our lunch at that time and I really appreciated the place.

We arrived at a small cottage. I thought “THIS IS IT?” I saw a small stream, forest view, huge stone cliff and grasses. But that’s not it, so we continue walking.

The Resort:

We have finally reached the entrance gate. We got “SHOCKED” since the plate says, “CLOSED.” Oh man, we got a long ride then we got this “CLOSED” sign in the place we don’t want to read. We stop for a while and wait for someone to come out. You know what happened? A wind blew and the plate and the half part says, “OPEN” are you kidding me? We checked the lock but it’s not locked, we got our way through.

Upon entering, the place is awesome, you can see the neighboring hills covered with forest, the views are beautiful, the cliffs are amazing to stare, and the durian fruits are tempting us fresh from the durian tree itself.

The Canteen:

The canteen is clean. They got many products for sale. Just an advice, it’s better to bring your own snacks and soft drinks since the products there are a little expensive but don’t complain it’s just the right price since they have bought those products from the city and it’s worth the service.

The Monkey:

The monkey is entertaining. There is one monkey in the canteen that’s very energetic. It jumps here, jumps there trying to get your shawl or any attractive clothing.

The Butterfly Sanctuary:

I really haven’t noticed the butterflies there. All I know that there is a beautiful butterfly sanctuary there. They say that during afternoon, they are very nice to watch. It’s just that I haven’t witnessed it. Maybe there are times where they are not active, if they are very alive at that time, I should have noticed.

The Pool:

After all are gathered and we are all set. We ate our lunch and had really a lot of talking. Around 3:00 in the afternoon, we jumped to the pool. They got 2 pools. The one is for adult and the other is for birds. Just kidding, the other one is for kids but we managed to swim there after soaking in the cold deeper pool because the water for kids pool is warm.

The pools are awesome especially the deeper one. It has a very beautiful view. You can actually see the cute hills, the green forest, the clear sky, and the awesome sunset.

The Tents and The Cottages:

We took the tents. It’s really exciting. The night came where we have already eaten our dinner. Actually, you can buy food there but make sure to order ahead of time for them to prepare. The tent is awesome. It’s like camping in Mount Apo. We rented a 2 huge tents where we are all there around 32+ of us. Actually, somebody sponsored those tents, too humble not to reveal his/her identity.

During the night, you can gaze at the beautiful sky. The air is cold and refreshing. Don’t worry it’s not too dim in the place since they got a lot of lights uphill. By the way, the tent camp is located downhill. It’s not so far, around 40 steps from the canteen.

There are 2 types of cottage, open and close. The cute closed cottages are good for 2 or 3 persons. The open cottages, we used those to eat breakfast in the morning and lunch.

The Staff and The Services:

The services of the staffs are AAA+++. A very accommodating staffs, very friendly and really observed cleanliness. Their services are really good! When you want something, or you got concerns, they will address those with a smile.

The Way Back To The City:

If you got there via motorcycle or van, there are vans and motorcycles also that will pass the road going to the city. The fare is the same as going to the resort: Php 50.oo.
